Smelling Meditation

Updated: Mar 1, 2023

This solo meditation allows you to let go of all distractions by allowing your sense of smell take over!

BUT HOW? -Find something you like the smell of; this might be a kitchen spice, a flower, an essential oil or a type of food. -Get comfortable -Bring your entire attention to the object you have chosen, bring the item closer to your nose and close your eyes. -Inhale SLOWLY & DEEPLY in through your nose, taking notice of how you feel, what comes to mind and how your body feels.... Do you feel relaxed? Is there a part of your body that has a different sensation? What kind of smell does the object hold? -is it warm? fresh? clean? floral? Does the smell take you somewhere you have been to before?- the beach, the forrest, the farm or maybe even a hug from a loved one? -EXHALE through the mouth -REPEAT!!

By using your olfactory system when meditating it encourages you to focus on your breath and the use of breathing deeply through your nose. Focusing on your breathe will naturally increase your mindfulness and enhances relaxation of the mind, body & spirit.

It is advised to practice this kind of meditation for 10 minutes.
